Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (Rev. 1:4b-6 nrsv)
This time around, I have been avoiding writing something for Running in Faith. There has seemed to be far too much to do lately: too many people to counsel, too many phone calls to make, and too much post Hurricane Sandy work to do. This also means that I have had too little focus as well.
God, on the other hand, uniquely focuses on humanity. In the gift of Jesus, the king who is willing to die for all of us, we are given the utter focus and attention of the divine. We scattered and frazzled people are given the gift of a God who is faithful. We who try so hard to earn friends, money, prestige, and even salvation are given the gift of a God who freely gives grace and peace to all people.
Gracious God, thank you for your intentional and downward focus on your whole creation. Help us to focus on the people and tasks that you set before us that in our daily work we may honor you. In Jesus’s name, Amen
