If you O Lord should mark my iniquities,
Lord who could stand?
But there is forgiveness in you.

(Psalm 130 v3-4 )

“Oops! I forgot you Lord.” All too often this is my prayer. Perhaps you have prayed it too. “Oops! I forgot you Lord.” My troubles were so deep, my anger was so big, my distress was so overwhelming and I forgot to share it with you. I forgot to ask you for your love and your guidance. I just wallowed around in my self-pity, my self-righteous judgements, my sorrow and forgot to let you in. “Oops! I forgot you Lord.”

The most wonderful and amazing thing about this prayer is that God never answers it with these words. “Oops! I forgot you Debbie.” In fact the answer time and time again is always the same. I forgive you, I love you, and I am always here for you. In fact my love for you and all my people is so great, so beyond human understanding that I sent my Son to die for your selfishness, your distress, your self pity.

Lent is a time for reflection. Let us spend this time reflecting upon the unbelievable gift of grace that comes to each and everyone of us no matter how many times we pray “Oops! I forgot you Lord.”

Lord, thank you for always remembering us, and for
forgiving us when we neglect to remember you. Amen
