So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher
   2 Timothy 1:8-11 (NIV)

Who has saved us and called us? What a sobering thought in the midst of the hustle and bustle of this time of the year. We seemingly run every direction getting prepared for the holiday season. Though preparations are necessary, we need to take time to stop and think of the reason, the calling, and the benefits of the calling.

In the first part of this chapter, Paul reminds Timothy of his gifts and his inheritance. I believe that God would remind us of Who paid the price, Whose calling, Whose work, and in Whose purpose we are to operate. It is easy to push forth in the flesh without taking time to allow God to operate or manifest Himself and His purpose through us. God can do more in two seconds than we can do in a lifetime, but there are many times when we are so focused on what we feel we need to be doing, that we take our focus off of Him and His will. We try to accomplish everything in our own power. In this mode, things tend to fall apart and stress rises. We become ineffective. We need to stop and rest in His presence. We do not need to be caught up in the frenzy and stress of all there is to do. If we do, we will not see the provisions that God has made for us.

We all need to be reminded: In Whose purpose are we to operate? God not only called us and equipped us but He also gave us His plan. He is more than able to accomplish His will through us if we allow Him to take control of every situation. Our responsibility comes in moving by faith in the direction that God is leading us. This will make the burden light and the path clear.

Dear Lord in Heaven: Thank you for having a plan for my redemption and salvation. The plan began to unfold with the birth of your Son which we celebrate this time of year. May I continue to remember throughout this coming New Year that you have a plan for me and to allow it to unfold each day. May I share the love in my heart and the good news of the gospel in all that I do. I pray in Jesus name, Amen.
