"Since then, we have such a hope,
we act with great boldness."
2 Corinthians 3:12
It is the beginning of another semester in the un-world of academia for me at Princeton Theological Seminary. At the beginning of every semester I set all these expectations for myself and for those around me. But I read a devotion from the Moravians this time that reminded me what hope and boldness are all about in Christ's eyes. Here is a poem and a prayer.
In all our world-
In factory, shop or schoolroom,
in kitchen, boardroom, market, office, mill-
we each must make our witness
known with boldness-
God's Spirit works
through mortal mind and will.
(Margaret Clarkson)
We give you thanks, O God, for making us a part of your new creation in Jesus Christ. Replace our old values based on competition, with new values based on cooperation. Replace our old desires to hoard, with new desires to share. And replace our old ways of indifference with new ways of compassion. Amen.
